Thanks Bowtie, I don't know why I haven't run into this forum before. What's even funnier is that I bought a set of 299s from a member on here for the 804Bs. Now I just need the single throats, 288 aluminum phragms and I have midrange to die for.

Re: The Altec User's Board Free Marketplace !

    RE: 604C
You see it exactly as I found it. I know nothing about it former life, in terms of any alterations or such. The surround is the corrugated paper edge of the cone, just coated with a rubbery substance as was typical of many drivers I recall from those days, many manufacturers deliverying drivers from the factory with the coatings, and also the coating being available for DIY at most hi-fi supply shops of the day..On this driver, I don't know if this was applied by the factory or an owner. The quality of glue lines and felting around the horn/cone lead me to believe this is an original cone. If it was changed, it must have been done professionally way back in the day. I have had this driver for 20 years, and the guy that had it stored in a "barn" before me [mounted in an enclosure] said it was there for more than 10. That gives us 30 years or more that it has been unmolested.

The gasket pieces are very nicely cut, probably a die cut factory made part. Perhaps aftermarket???? I don;t know if this was a normal Altec part with 604s when new, or available as an option if needed for baffle back side mounting. Today front side mounting is very popular, but back in the 50s thru the 70s, rear side of baffle mounting was the norm. You had to take a panel off the enclosure to get to the driver from the inside. Now you just unscrew them and pull 'em off the panel from the outside.

So..anyone interested? We can do layaway to make the financial load easier, or run a credit card.

Indeed they are. I know someone here might have a single at least. I could just close my eyes and pretend it is in stereo.

Or, i could put you in touch with a fella i've known since kindergarten who owns/operates his own foundry. Just so happens that he likes special/short runs. He does open sand, lost wax, and i'm sure other forms of casting in aluminum, brass, bronze, and iron.

Hi Les, do these have the same stepped return pots as the 416-xB motors?

    Thanks in advance.

    Moved Posts From The Marketplace

I moved posts from the marketplace to avoid clogging up the Marketplace with posts not related to Wanting to buy or wanting to sell Altec & Altec related gear.Sorry for any inconvenience.

PLEASE WHEN REPLYING TO A LISTED ITEM USE THE PM's or EMAIL. Thank You ! This way Folks won't have to scroll through tons of posts to find the listed items. And when your item(s) sell comeback to edit your listing so that Folks know it sold and for how much to give Folk's in the future an idea of what they are worth. Thanks !

One other thing as Bowtie suggested please put location of items so Folks can figure their shipping costs if they would like to buy your items.

    Regards ~ AB

    Re: Stanley Screamers

Good luck with your sale Josh.

FWIW, always good to give folks a general idea of your location so they can include how to get them home in their contemplation process.

    Re: Stanley Screamers

Ditto bowtie's comments. Always good of someone to keep a set together when feasible.
Were I closer, I'd trade my M600's for them. Alas, not.
